It Takes One to Know One

Applause, which is a film about an actress struggling to reconcile her personal and professional lives, has been especially well received by those in the entertainment industry. Following on the heels of a successful screening for members of the Screen Actors Guild, the Writers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America have both requested to share the movie with their members. The WGA screening will take place at its Beverly Hills, CA, theater on Monday, January 10, at 6 p.m. Details of the DGA event will follow. Additionally, members of the Academy and the New York press will be congregating on Wednesday, January 6, at the 57 Screening Room in Manhattan for another screening of the picture prior to its January 21 general release.

Brave Recognition

Paprika Steen received numerous awards for her performance in Applause while the picture was on the international festival circuit. Now that the film is being released by World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation, the public is recognizing her talent as well! This week, the Alliance Of Women Film Journalists (a North American association of leading professional female movie critics, reporters and feature writers) nominated Steen for a 2010 EDA Award in the category of Bravest Performance. Winners will be announced on Monday, January 10.

Ask Paprika Continues

Paprika Steen's recent press tour has U.S. audiences hungry to learn more about the actress who is already the toast of Europe. To hold everyone over until her return, Ms. Steen has been continuing to participate in World Wide's "Ask Paprika" campaign by responding to questions submitted by her fans and followers. The fourth and fifth videotaped answers have recently been posted. Do you have a question for the actress? Be sure to post it here. Yours could be chosen next!

The Golden Globe Question

With the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations last week came some confusion about why Paprika Steen was not included for her jaw-dropping performance in Applause. World Wide would like to clarify that Ms. Steen was not submitted for consideration because Applause opened a few weeks too early in Denmark last year for the film to qualify. However, thanks to the film’s successful one-week run in Los Angeles earlier this month, she is qualified for Oscar consideration. Ms. Steen was submitted in the category of Best Actress and a full campaign is underway. The Academy will be announcing its 2010 nominations in late January.

On A Roll!

The reviews are in and the consensus is unanimous: Paprika Steen's performance in Applause is simply jaw dropping! In the wake of the numerous screenings for the film held on both coasts, in addition to the one-week Oscar-qualifying run held in Los Angeles last week, critics are confirming what World Wide knew all along: this film is a winner! In fact, the theater circuits were so impressed with Applause's popularity that they've requested additional copies of the trailer and more prints so that they can increase the film's pre-premiere exposure and hopefully show it in additional theaters.

Rubbing Shoulders

We had a great time at the reception held for Applause star Paprika Steen while she was in Los Angeles recently. Following the film’s showing at the Sunset Screening Room in Hollywood, the actress was greeted by acting colleagues, members of the World Wide board and marketing team, and a host of other admirers at the nearby Mirabelle’s restaurant. Notable in attendance were the wife of the of the Danish consulate, Berit Stenhoj, Academy award winner Arnold Schwartzman, John Barrymore III, and Don McManus.

World Wide would like to welcome the newest supporter of Applause: La Velvet Margarita Cantina. Located at 1612 North Cahuenga Blvd., in Hollywood, this unique Mexican restaurant provided dinner to the lucky winner of the Applause promotional sweepstakes on the eve of the screening to which they were awarded tickets. Please help us return the favor by dining at this festive eatery when you are in town. For more information, visit or call (323) 469-2000.
